Stroj Resperate může snížit tlak krve.
The RESPeRATE device is a non-invasive, computerized musical device that helps people breathe slowly and lower their blood pressure. It has three components: a small computer module, standard earphones, and a chest strap with a breath sensor. Patients wear the chest strap, put on the earphones, and sit in a chair while the device plays soothing music with tones that represent their actual breathing. They are instructed to match their breathing to the tones, which gradually slow until they reach a relaxing rate of 10 breaths per minute.
The study involved 149 patients with high blood pressure who were asked to use a home blood-pressure monitor without knowing they would be tested on the RESPeRATE device. Nearly everyone used it correctly, and those who did frequently achieved significant drops in blood pressure. The device lowered systolic blood pressure by an average of 15 points, compared to a 9.2 point drop from monitoring alone.
The device is more helpful than just sitting and breathing slowly while listening to relaxing music because it provides biofeedback that allows the user not to focus on lowering their breathing rate. Instead, the device does that for them, allowing for a better relaxation response and reduction in blood pressure.
High blood pressure patients should consult with their doctor before trying any over-the-counter treatment, including the RESPeRATE device. However, Dr. Laurence Sperling notes that this device could be beneficial for some people, especially when used in conjunction with psychological services for stress reduction, such as biofeedback training.
