Cutting out sugar can lower blood pressure by reducing diastolic blood pressure and improving glucose tolerance, according to a study published in the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology. The study found that diastolic blood pressure decreased by five mmHg and levels of blood cholesterol decreased by 46 per cent. However, consuming sugar can also temporarily raise blood pressure due to its effect on insulin levels and sympathetic nervous system activation.
